Department of Geriatric Medicine
The creation of the UHM Department of Geriatric Medicine officially recognizes not only the strong preexisting academic and research programs of the geriatric program, but acknowledges that Hawaii is an aging state with the longest life expectancy in the nation. The department provides education for: medical students, residents in internal medicine, family practice and ob-gyn, fellows in geriatric medicine and geriatric psychiatry, practicing physicians and allied health professionals.  The Pacific Islands Geriatric Education Center provides interdisciplinary training for practicing health professionals throughout the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands.

The mission of the Hawai`inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge is “to pursue, perpetuate, research, and revitalize all areas and forms of Hawaiian knowledge, including its language, origins, history, arts, sciences, literature, religion, and education; its law and society; its political, medicinal, and cultural practices; as well as all other forms of knowledge. Kokua Kalihi Valley (Comprehensive Family Services)
The mission of Kokua Kalihi Valley (Comprehensive Family Services) is to be “an agent for reconciliation and healing in the Kalihi Valley community.”  Kokua Kalihi Valley was “formed in 1972 as a non-profit corporation by the Kalihi Valley community in the City and County of Honolulu, State of Hawaii. Housed in the pastor’s office of Kalihi Baptist Church, the organization started with a coordinator and four outreach workers who combed the valley connecting residents in need with existing services. Today, eighty staff offer services in seventeen languages and from five locations, three in public housing. Our services include dental, medical, perinatal, family planning, nutrition (WIC), immunization, STD/HIV testing and services, behavioral health, elderly services, health education, social services, transportation, translation, outreach, professional education, youth services, and community advocacy. KKV also provides on-site services at five elementary and secondary schools.”

Hawaii Psychological Association
The mission of the Hawaii Psychological Association is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Hawaii by encourgaging, integrating, applying, and communicating the contributions of Psychology in all its branches. The HPA seeks to strengthen public relations, advocate for a psychologically healthy community, develop solutions for mental health care, be responsive to the multiple cultures in Hawaii, promote the highest standards of professional ethics, and to diffuse psychological knowledge through meetings, conventions and publications.
